Happy Mapping - a KS2 cross arts project promoting emotional health and well being

Invisible Flock Logo

Invisible Flock, an artist collective, will be taking over an empty retail space in Leeds City Centre during the summer of 2010. They will be turning this space into the 'Bring the Happy' shop where members of the public will be invited to contribute happy memories to a giant 3D interactive map of Leeds.

Working in partnership with Invisible Flock,  ArtForms is offering ten Leeds primary schools the chance to get involved in this new work through an education project called 'Happy Mapping'. Working through drama, visual art and digital media,KS2 children will explore concepts of individual and community happiness to create their own large scale artistic map.

The 2 day programme is being subsidised by Arts Council England and ArtForms and will cost £450.

For further information, please download the application form. If you are interested in applying, please complete and return the form as soon as possible to Helen Taylor, Arts Administrator.

Telling Tales - Discover the Art of Storytelling with Heather Sharpe

Telling Tales is a six day course for Parents, Grandparents and Carers of Early Years and Primary Children. It is designed to be delivered in individual and/or clusters of schools with support from teachers and parent support workers. The course provides a safe, structured learning process for parents, under the guidance of a professional storyteller. Participants listen to stories, develop their storytelling skills and create their own tales to share with children.

The course is delivered by Heather Sharpe, a qualified teacher and highly experienced storyteller and has been developed in response to the success of her story telling sessions in Leeds Primary Schools.  It is a tried and tested model which has already been delivered in 11 Leeds Primary Schools. Due to its tremendous success in increasing parents’ confidence and enabling them to support their children’s literacy, we are promoting the course and encouraging other schools across the city to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.
