Music making for young people outside of school
ArtForms Music provides - or works in partnership with other organisations in the city - to provide opportunities for young people to develop their individual and group music-making skills outside of their school lessons.
Instrument Development Days
From Brass and Percussion Days to Double Reed Instruments and Girls' Guitar Days, our music departments host a range of Instrument Development Days throughout the school year. These are whole day events and usually take place at The West Park Centre. If your child is having lessons with one of our Musician Teachers in school, they will receive details of the development days once they have reached a level where it would be of benefit to them. During the days, young people work with a team of specialist staff to perform with their peers and develop group music-making skills.
City of Leeds Youth Music Groups
ArtForms Music runs more than 20 youth music groups from beginner's ensembles to The City of Leeds Youth Orchestra. Many of these take place after school and in the evenings at The West Park Centre, although we do have some groups at different locations in the city. For more detailed information, please visit the CLYM pages of the website.
Leeds Music Centres
ArtForms Music runs 8 Music Centres in Leeds, offering a huge variety of musical classes and ensembles for people of all ages. For more information, please go to the Music Centre pages of the website.
Saturday Music School
ArtForms are one of the partners to the Saturday Music School programme at Leeds College of Music. The two year programme supports talented musicians, helping to develop skills and offering the opportunity to explore new musical areas. Students attending the programme are aged between 9 and 18. To find out more, please visit the Leeds College of Music website.
Leeds Schools Music Association Concerts
A group of ArtForms staff and teachers from Leeds schools make up the Leeds Schools Music Association Committee which arranges two concerts per year at Leeds Town Hall. The concerts bring together choirs, orchestras and bands – some formed from scratch for the concerts – and are designed to give as many Leeds school pupils as possible the opportunity to perform in the spectacular surroundings of the Victoria Hall. For more information, please visit the LSMA section of the website.
