Instrumental and vocal learning
ArtForms Music has a team of over 150 Musician Teachers (formerly called peripatetic music teachers) Offering a vast range of instrumental and vocal tuition, they have specialist knowledge of the instrumental family they teach and provide a high quality, broad-based curriculum to all learners in individual or small group lessons. These take place during the school day or during after school hours.
Lessons are available in:
- Strings
- Woodwind (including recorder)
- Brass
- Percussion
- Voice
- Steel Pan
- Guitar (acoustic, electric or bass)
- Indian Music
- Keyboard
Schools usually opt to have children taught in small groups and we usually recommend a minimum of one hour for ten pupils in primary schools and for six pupils in secondary schools.
Our Musician Teachers will help with the selection of pupils for lessons, advise on appropriate instruments and prepare pupils for public music examinations where appropriate. They will monitor the progress of pupils, liaise with school staff and complete annual reports for all of the young people they teach.
Awards Scheme
ArtForms operates a system of music awards to reward and encourage pupils who are taking lessons with our Musician Teachers. They are Red(1), Orange(2), Yellow(3) and we are in the process of introducing Green (4). The awards record the stages of learning and the skills acquired by the learner. Some will be specific to the instrument or voice and some will be about learning general musical skills. All the skills relate to 'A Common Approach', the basis for the curriculum in many Music Services across the country. The awards provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will provide pupils with a wide musical experience through the playing of their instrument or singing. When pupils have completed the criteria for each award, they will receive a certificate from ArtForms, signed by the appropriate Head of Department.
