Sing Up Skillshare

A course to build the links and skills to sustain singing in our primary schools

Led by Em Whitfield Brooks 14th & 27th September, 13th October, 3rd & 17th November, 1st December. 4.15 – 5.45pm at the West Park Centre, Spen Lane, Leeds LS16 5BE

Sing Up Yorkshire is running an exciting and valuable training course to develop a network of vocal practitioners who are skilled in training and supporting less confident colleagues to use and lead singing with children in schools.

This course is part of our regional strategy to embed good quality vocal practise in schools and Sing Up is offering 16 places to participants who are committed to Sing Up and developing vocal leadership in primary schools.  By exploring how best to empower other adults to lead singing with children, the course aims to provide participants with a supportive network of colleagues who can develop and learn together through the training sessions and into the future.

The course is delivered by well known Sing Up Trainer and vocal leader Em Whitfield Brooks.  This unique 6 week-course has been specially devised to give participants skills, approaches and repertoire to lead training with and support school colleagues who are anxious or apprehensive to sing with children in schools.   This course is subsidised and so free of charge to participants, however places will be allocated via application only, as the course is most suited to participants who are already using and leading singing in schools and who feel ready to pass these skills on to the wider workforce in their settings.

Em Whitfield Brooks is a singer-songwriter, director, teacher, trainer and ex-clown who works with groups of all ages and levels of ability in the search for musical, vocal and personal liberation and increased freedom of expression.  Em has led diverse singing, music and theatre projects since 1987, and works in schools, colleges, community and corporate settings across the UK and internationally, spending a lot of time encouraging teachers and ‘non-musicians’ to work with singing, music and communication skills in new and interesting ways.  Em was Sing Up Vocal Force Advisor for three years and continues to work as a Trainer for Sing Up.  She is director of Ryedale Festival Community Opera and one half of vocal duo The Ruby Larks.
